Step 5 - Reminders About Collecting

• Collect approximately diameter of pencil thickness of hair (collect greater thickness if hair is less than 1 ½ inch long)
• It is better to have too much hair for the sample than too little!
• Remember that shorter hair (less than 1 ½ inch) requires a more strands of hair to have adequate “bulk” for the sample

Step 6 - Package the Hair Sample

• Put Collection Foil into Hair Specimen Pouch with the donor observing
• Seal Pouch with the small seal from the Chain of Custody Form
• Don't forget fill the information on to the hair collection envelope
  
  
  
• Have the donor initial and date the seal
